How To Set Up a Google Account for Your Non-Google Email Address
Sometimes you need to log in to Google services like Google Analytics, YouTube or Google Search Console with your existing email address.
A classic case is when your favourite web marketer is trying to give you access to your Google Analytics reports directly from WordPress, and your WordPress login email is not a Google email address. You could change your WordPress login to use a Google based email address so that you can see Google Analytics data from WordPress but then you have yet another login to remember.
But if your email address is set up on Office 365, Xtra or some other service that is not Google based, how do you do it? Is it even possible? Don't we get into some kind of death spiral here?
The good news is that you can create a Google Account that is linked to your existing email address, which allows you to log in to any Google service.
If that sounds like hard work, it's not:
- Go to https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount
- Enter your first name, last name and select "use my current email address instead."
- Enter your email and the password you want to use and click Next.
- Follow the prompts to verify your email address, answer the security questions and then you're done.
